As part of my ongoing development as a gameplay programmer, I created this platformer prototype to explore and implement a range of quality-of-life mechanics commonly found in modern platforming games. The goal was to create a movement system that felt responsive, forgiving, and enjoyable to control while gaining a deeper understanding of player-centric game design.
The prototype features several mechanics designed to improve the player's experience, including coyote time, variable jump heights, jump buffering, and enhanced movement controls. Players can perform shorter jumps by releasing the jump button early, giving them greater control over their movement. The game also includes hit-stop effects when taking damage, adding impact and feedback to player interactions.
Developed entirely in Unity using C#, this project allowed me to focus on gameplay feel and responsiveness while gaining valuable experience in implementing polished movement systems. Although relatively small in scope, it provided a strong foundation for understanding the subtle design choices that make platforming games feel smooth, satisfying, and accessible to players.
